Meals are a very important part of Outdoor Science School. Students, teachers, and cabin leaders meet in the dining hall to fuel their bodies for hiking and learning on trail and to enjoy time together. The kitchen staff at Wrightwood prepare all of the meals “in house” from scratch, from the sunflower seed butter and pizzas, to the legendary homemade trail bars.

Breakfast and Dinner are served in the Dining Hall “family style”. Lunch ingredients are packed in the morning and are eaten on trail “picnic style”. Snacks, such as apples and homemade trail bars, are served throughout the day. Second helpings on all meals are always available. Cabin groups share the set-up and clean-up responsibilities in the Dining Hall on a rotating basis.

Dietary Restrictions

Our kitchen staff works hard to serve excellent food to all students. If you or your child have dietary restrictions, we are happy to accommodate in ways that we are able. Vegetarian, gluten-free, and dairy-free options are available. We have peanut-free and tree nut-free options as well. While we are happy to make sure that dietary needs are met during the week, we do need to order food supplies in advance. Visitors with dietary restrictions are encouraged to communicate about food needs with the participating teacher and Outdoor Science School in advance. If you have any questions about the food at Wrightwood, please contact the participating teacher at your school or Lead Teacher Kathleen Mitchell.

Breakfast
Breakfast is served Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday morning in the Dining Hall.  We offer a hot breakfast each morning, accompanied by a cold cereal bar.  All breakfasts offer seconds for visitors who are hungry after exploring all day!

Lunch
Monday lunch is served in the Dining Hall shortly after you arrive.  Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday lunch are served on the trail, picnic-style.  A great way to enjoy the outdoors with your Trail Group! Lunch is sandwiched between a morning and afternoon snack to keep up your energy.
