Great cabin leaders are essential for a great week at Outdoor Science School for you, your students, and the Outdoor Science School staff! Each school must provide supervision for its students during the week. One Cabin Leader is needed for every ten students.
INFORMATION REGARDING CHOOSING CABIN LEADERS (CL’S)
- CHOOSE YOUR CL’S FAR IN ADVANCE - This gives the CL’s time for an orientation/preparation session with you
- CHOOSE HIGH SCHOOL JUNIORS AND SENIORS- we do recommend high school students but you may bring parent CL’s.
- CHOOSE FORMER STUDENTS- if you have former students you think may be good role models, consider them. It is a great privilege to return to Outdoor Science School and instills inspiration in the students attending to return to OSS as a CL
- TRY TO AVOID…- students who are romantically involved, smokers, & parents of students who wish to spend a lot of private time with their child(ren)

When choosing CL’s arrange to visit the high school after hours to talk with interested candidates. This is the time to introduce the program, and double check on the suitability of each student for the positions. Bring pertinent paper work to this meeting (health forms, permission slips, teacher sighoff/stdudent contracts, ect). A letter of recommendation for interested in candidates is also advised. At the high school level, you may wish to select alternates. Chances are that someone may back out at the last minute.
