2007-2008 School year:

October 8, 2007

We enjoyed the students from Laura King, Jermone Wiley, Brandon Shaw's classrooms from Rosa Parks school. Our first group of students were very respectful and loved learning more about nature the minute they got off the bus on Monday. The weather was crisp as typical for an early October day in the San Gabriel Mountains. We had four trail groups led by Courtney, Leanne, Jeff, and Emily. Michael was our CLC and taught new songs every morning.

October 15, 2007

This week we were visited by students from Beryl Hights and Alpine schools. The Black Oak trees were changing colors, the Western Grey Squirels were very bushy tailed, and busy burying accorns for winter's aproach. The weather was quite cool and breezy at times during the week. Emily was our CLC.

October 22, 2007

Fall is definitely here! The beautiful Black Oaks (Oh Baby!!) are turning a golden yellow this week, giving an awesome contrast against the dark green of the Canyon Oaks and Western Yellow Pines. The air is cool and clear with the land anticipating the lower temperatures in the weeks to come. We had the schools Grace Miller and New Lexington this week.

October 29, 2007

The Black Oaks this past week turned more golden to orange. Out night hikes were under very clear and cold skies. Our group of students were really great singers, and this pleased our neighbors, the Kaputchas, very much. Courtney was our Cabin Leader Coordinator and she did a wonderful job inspiring the students and cabin leaders to have a wonderful week.

November 5, 2007

Students from Meadowlark and Aqua Dulce arrived with cold fall weather. We had good weather and the students enjoyed hiking to places like Shade at Last, The Landslide, and Maraposa. Michael was CLC.

November 13, 2007

Happy Veteran's Day! It was a short week for Mira Catalina School. The students arrived Tuesday, ready to explore and learn. Students enjoyed learning about the geology of Wrightwood by exploring the many rocks in the levy. They ended the week by singing the song On the Loose.

November 19, 2007

Thanksgiving Holiday!

November 26 , 2007

This week we had Point Vicente and Rancho Vista schools from Palace Verdes. Leanne was our CLC, and she taught us awesome songs and dances. Students explored the Ridge, the Chaparral trail, and Desert View. Noa's group enjoyed birdwatching. The week ended with a giant rain storm Thursday night and Friday morning.

December 3, 2007

Castelar school visited us this week. The weather got much colder and the Black Oak trees have now lost all their leaves. Binz and Leanne are gone on vacation.

December 10, 2007

We had a small group this week from Andrew School. Courtney was our CLC. On Tuesday, Michael and Noa's groups enjoyed a skull lesson while Jeff's group explored Woodpecker Grove and the base of the Landslide. Emily's group went to Yucca Junction, and Matt's group explored the levee. Leanne and Binz are on vacation in New Zealand.

December 17, 2007 - January 4, 2008

Happy Holidays! The staff of Wrightwood Outdoor Science School are on vacation. :)

January 7, 2008

Soleado School joined us for a week in the snow! Students enjoyed hiking through over a foot of snow, exploring the physical characteristics of ice, and enjoying the cold weather. Jeff's group learned the mechanics of making a snow fort while Binz's group discovered a frozen stream. Michael's group made fresh tracks up to the ridge, and Leanne's group found bobcat, coyote and Western grey squirrel tracks in the snow. Courtney's group plowed through the Desert View trail to see a magnificent view. Emily was our CLC and taught us many fun dances and songs. The snow was starting to melt by the time Soleado left.
