2007-2008 SCHOOL YEAR
Welcome Back!! Here's some of the latest news about Wrightwood
and the Outdoor Science School:
( For updated weekly news, see our WEEKLY BLOG; See Frequently Asked Questions for information not
covered here)
Weather: See our Weather Page for expected weather and forecasts. The students' health, safety and comfort are our first priority, and we have plenty of rain ponchos, insulated snow boots, warm jackets, hats, gloves and scarves to loan students as needed. We have never been in direct danger of floods or debris flows at the outdoor school site - if we thought there was ~any~ danger, getting the students out safely would be our first priority. Wrightwood has several roads into and out of town, so even when there is severe weather, there is always a way to get the students home if needed. With the Mountain High Ski Area just up the road, the highway is also kept clear for skiers and snowboarders during winter months. Staff stay on site with the students - cabin leaders in the cabins, classroom teachers and cabin leader coordinator in the "Huddle Hut" next to the cabins, and other outdoor school staff live within walking distance of the campus, so we are all nearby if needed. So far this year, even with all the local news focused on "disaster" (as usual), we have had great teaching experiences with students! For more detailed weekly updates, check out our Weekly Blog!
Roads: The roads into Wrightwood are open and clear!
Fire: So far, Outdoor Science School is free of fire danger this season!
