Employment with LACOSS
Length of ContractWe operate during a traditional September through June school year . Work usually begins on the day after Labor Day, though sometimes it's a bit later in September. The school year ends on the first full week of June. A typical year consists of 160-180 work days and about 22 paid vacation days. If you wish, there are often opportunities to take unpaid time off when enrollment is low. Barring any problems, all staff are invited to return for subsequent school years. Most folks work for LACOSS at least two years. Some have been here more than 10 years. We hope to provide a working environment that encourages you to see outdoor science teaching as a career choice, rather than something fun to do until you find a "real job".
