SALARY

Starting salary of $19,800 per year, which is equivalent to $559 per week, increasing to a maximum of $26,000 per year in subsequent years. Room and board. Medical, dental, vision benefits. Twenty-two paid vacation days, plus paid professional development days. Summers off. More info

DUTIES

Under an on-site director, instruct fifth and sixth grade students in principles of ecosystem science with topics such as geology and soils, plant adaptations, wildlife habitat, basic astronomy, comparative ecosystems, human ecology, and science process skills. Outdoor Science Teachers will also lead evening programs, provide occasional student supervision, and train volunteer cabin leaders. Other duties common to residential outdoor programs will be assigned as needed. More info

QUALIFICATIONS

BA/BS in life science (biology, zoology, botany, etc.), natural resources, environmental science, relevant physical science (geology, astronomy, etc.), or other comparable fields. Course work should include general ecology, botany, zoology, geology and/or earth science, and field natural history experience. Previous experience teaching science in the outdoors to children, preferably experience at another residential outdoor school program. First Aid/CPR certification. Physically able to lead teaching hikes in a semi-wilderness setting. Willingness to work irregular hours. Ability to deal patiently and constructively with children and teens.
