1. What preparations do I need to make before the trip?
For a comprehensive list, you may visit the teacher information section of the LACOSS site.
2. What do I need to bring?
For your group you will need to bring water bottles(1 per student. 1/2 liter disposable variety is sufficient) and pencils(1 per student). For your personal packing, look at the student packing list. In addition, you may want to bring an alarm clock(cell phones don't work well as alarm clocks here) and a flashlight.
3. How should I organize rosters and paperwork?
Upon arrival, you should have a finalized list of attending students and cabin leaders, as well as health forms(alphabetized by last name is helpful). We encourage you to use our Excel roster template. This customized Excel template is what we use to record and organize your students names into cabin groups, naturalist groups, infirmary lists, etc. It’s a useful tool for you(it contains instructions on how to organize cabin groups) and it saves BSM staff time on Mondays.
4. What is the schedule like?
Have a look at our sample daily schedule.
5. What will we be eating?
Take a peak at our weekly sample menu. If you have any major dietary restrictions(e.g. diabetic, vegan), it is prudent to contact BSM prior to your session to see if we can accommodate you. Teachers are welcome to bring their own food.
6. Will I be able to contact the outside world?
Cellular phone coverage at BSM is spotty at best, however, BSM's land line is available for school-related calls. |

1. What is a Cabin Leader?
A Cabin Leader is someone who volunteers their time to supervise students for 4 to 5 day trips to Blue Sky Meadow. Cabin Leaders have two main roles. Their primary role is to supervise students during cabin time, when students prepare for activities, do homework, clean and sleep. Their other role is to assist BSM naturalists during trail times, meals and evening programs.
2. What is the schedule like?
Cabin Leaders get a 3-4 p.m. break Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. They may also get one 9:30-4 p.m. trail time off per week. Learn more about our routine with our sample schedule.
3. What will I be eating?
Please take a look at our sample menu. Cabin Leaders may bring their own food, but it must be stored in the Cabin Leader lounge and may only be eaten during off-time.
4. Where will I be living?
If your are curious about our accomodations, you should take our tour.
5. What should I bring?
In addition to the items on the packing list, Cabin Leaders may also want to bring an alarm clock, flashlight and sandals for showering.
6. Will I be able to communicate with the outside world?
While cellular phones occasionally work at BSM, don't count on it. If you do get service, your phone may only be used during your off-time and out of view of the students. BSM's land line is available for emergency use only.

1. What preparations do I need to make before the trip?
Your student should get plenty of rest the weekend prior to their trip. The student should also increase water intake 2 days before their trip so that they arrive at Blue Sky Meadow well hydrated.
2. What do I need to pack?
Before deciding what to pack, consider that many items brought to BSM become dirty, damaged or lost. To prevent loss, please mark all luggage and clothing with the student's name. New items such as footwear may require "breaking in." With this in mind, Blue Sky Meadow provides "borrow wear," items such as jackets and boots that we loan the students for the week. Since space on the busses is finite, please limit your child's luggage to a sleeping bag or bedroll, and one suitcase or duffel bag. Please consider our suggested packing list.
3. What if my student takes medications?
Fill out the medication form and have it signed by your doctor. Give the medication to the students classroom teacher on the day they leave. If your student has asthma and uses an inhaler, send at least 2 inhalers with them.
4. What will my child be eating?
If your student has dietary restrictions, please let your student's classroom teacher know before the session. If you are curious about what your student will be eating, check out our sample menu.
5. Who will be supervising my student?
Your student will be supervised 24 hours per day by classroom teachers, BSM staff and volunteer cabin leaders. Learn more about BSM staff on our staff biographies page.
6. What is my student's daily schedule like?
Your student has a busy week ahead. Learn more about our routine with our sample schedule.
7. What if I would like to visit or call my student while she/he is at camp?
We cannot accept calls while your child is at camp. No News Is Good News: If you don't hear from us, you can safely assume that your child is fine. If there is an emergency and you need to contact your student, please call your student's school and they will provide you with the necessary information.
8. How can I send mail to my student?
If you would like to send your student mail, be sure to send the letter before Monday afternoon(otherwise it may get here after your student has returned). When addressing the letter, use this format:
