Blue Sky Meadow is located in the San Bernardino Mountains near Big Bear City. As a site donated by the Wildlands Conservancy, we are situated in a broad, bowl-shaped valley surrounded by Jeffrey Pines, White Fir, Sierra Juniper and Sagebrush. The large meadow, an unusual habitat in dry Southern California, hosts a wide variety of species, including some rare plants. A natural seep feeds a small pond above the meadow. The combination of forest, meadow, and pond habitats provides and excellent and diverse outdoor teaching environment.

What Students Learn
The Outdoor Science School curriculum
is focused on the study of ecosystems and is coordinated with
the California State Science Framework and the Science Content
Standards. Students learn about different types of ecosystems,
the different parts of an ecosystem, how those parts function
together, and how humans interact with ecosystems. The outdoors
is our classroom and the natural environment is our laboratory.
Students learn through direct experience and observation within
the natural environments surrounding our school sites.
